Dr. Melina Morkin is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Tufts University of School of Medicine and a member of the Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive Surgery Service at New England Eye Center, Tufts Medical Center. She completed her ophthalmology residency at the New England Eye Center in Boston, followed by a fellowship in Cornea, External Disease, Cataract, and Refractive Surgery at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami.
Previously, she had also completed a postdoctoral research fellowship in Neuroscience at Shiley Eye Center, University of California San Diego, and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Dr. Morkin graduated first of her class and received her medical degree from Favaloro University, Faculty of Medical Sciences, in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Dr. Morkin currently sees patients at New England Eye Center in Boston and Framingham, as well as at Newton Wellesley Eye Associates in Newton. She performs surgery at both Tufts Medical Center and Surgisite, an ambulatory surgery center located in Waltham. She also performs LASIK and PRK procedures at TLC, a specialty laser center in Waltham.
She specializes in cataract surgery, including femtosecond laser technology and premium lenses, and refractive surgery such as LASIK and PRK in order to help patients eliminate the need for glasses or contact lenses. In addition, she has a special interest in corneal transplants, complex ocular surface pathology and tumors, and anterior segment surgery and reconstruction.
Dr. Morkin is actively involved in the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows in Boston, and is passionate about lecturing on the latest advancements in Ophthalmology. She is a member of renowned ophthalmological societies, such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology, American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, Cornea Society, and New England Ophthalmology Society.
Dr. Morkin enjoys her spare time with her family and is an avid mountain biker, baker, cook, and traveler. She is fluent in Spanish.
